When Lightning Strikes

We have had some really crazy storms here lately. My husband, who is an amazing electrical engineer, and I started a conversation about lightning. It was in the news that a few people had recently been struck by lightning, and my husband had a scary experience recently when lightning struck close to where he was standing. I started talking about my own experience with lightning and was shocked (no pun intended) when my husband told me he had not heard this story before.

Many years ago I was working at my first job as a "ticket queen" at a local movie theater. I really enjoyed my job there. One night there was a really bad storm which included a tornado. After the storm, I called my mom to make sure she and my father were okay. I was leaning on the counters and my arms were resting on the metal plates that covered the area where the tickets came out. There was also water on the counter that had blown in from the storm. While we were talking on the phone, lightning struck a telephone pole, sending lightning through the line. I was thrown back a few feet and hit the wall behind me. It was very scary and I couldn't feel my right arm for a few hours. Needless to say, it was a crazy experience.

I have always thought that it was because I was leaning on those metal plates that I was thrown the way I was. This is where the story gets freaky and is the reason I am sharing this story. My husband, the amazing electrical engineer, informed me that if it wasn't for those metal plates I could possibly be dead. Those metal plates possibly SAVED MY LIFE! Oh my gosh!

That was nearly twenty years ago. Obviously I am thankful to still be here. It is just really weird to know what the true circumstances were after all this time. Enjoy your day and remember to count your blessings!

Hello my bloggy friend! WooHoo!!! Party day is just a week away! I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone's creative spaces. I have a request... I thought it would be easier for everyone to leave comments if we all turned off comment moderation and word verification during the day (or maybe week) of the party. To do that, go to customize, settings, comments...then scroll down to turn off comment moderation and word verification.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and a fabulous week. See you next Friday!!
