You Can't Stop A Woman From Shopping

First, I have to thank you all for your wonderful prayers, thoughts, and comments on my last post, as well as the personal messages that have been sent to me. I owe lots of you an email. I am grateful to you all and love your friendship so much and promise to write as soon as I get out of my funk. In all honesty, we are all doing worse I think. Just having to wait for appointments and the "not knowing" is driving us all nuts, especially my mom. It is hard for her to be positive when she doesn't exactly know what to expect from her cancer diagnosis (gosh, I actually said the "c" word) and what the exact coarse of action is going to be.

It is amazing how many things in the course of the day, remind me of my mom. This whole thing has just opened up my eyes, that I am not getting any younger (will be the big 4 0 in November) and the realization that my parents aren't going to always be around. It's just a rude awakening, I guess. I thought I would be stronger then this, but I am kind of "pissed at the world" but also loving every minute of life. All I want to do besides hang out with my mom, is just be with my girls. My youngest and I just got done painting and we went our for ice cream too. It is just miserably hot here in the south, and I hate being hot.

So, after our sprinkler moment the other day (and yes, I do play in the sprinkler sometimes, and the slip n slide) my mom and I decided to go by one of our favorite spots. It was fun, especially with my oldest joining us. I love the age she is at, and the way she can go with me to the places I love. Of course, there is much more to look at in an antique store then a fabric store. I reminded my mom how much I hated going into that place with her as a child, the smell of all the fabric and nothing to look at except pattern books - yuk!

Here are some of my finds from the day....

I love old thread bobbins, actually, any old wood pieces. Ration books are always cool, as well as pictures. An egg timer and a partially filled (1/3) box of bridge flash cards, of all things. I have lots of flash cards listed in my etsy shop, but these are just as different as you can get.

I have had my eye on this old cigar box (I think that's what it is) for some time. It doesn't have a lid, but I know I can find a use for it.

This "Visit to Rome" booklet has some cool old drawings in it, and the tourniquet with illustration gave me a giggle. However, again, my etsy shop is full of old cards and I just love my collection, but these I have never seen before and they are small cards, which are what I like best.

They are cards with famous authors on them and each card has a literary work listed on it as the suit, I guess. Anyway, thought they would be neat in some altered art. It takes some time for me to actually separate a set of something, be it cards, ledger books, etc.

Okay, this picture came out really small, but it is an old "Ipswich" game. The letter tiles, like scrabble, are made of wood, only black. How cool is that? My mom found three old scrabble sets that day and she was thrilled! I don't know how to play this game but feel like I should look into it before I separate the parts. My husband and I are big scrabble players. Not as often as in earlier years. Our daughter's like to mess up the board so the PlayStation version has come in handy. But my husband is also a huge television freak once his work day is done. My husband grew up playing with his family. They are a very competitive bunch and it has rubbed off on me. I have only beat my husband at scrabble once, but I still rub it in his face to this day because I used all of my letters when I did it. He hasn't been able to do that yet so it gives me a great deal of pleasure. He always smears my ass at everything, so it is nice to have this one huge victory!

Another game that I don't know, but can play with my girls. Looks really cute!

Need I say more then...... BLING!

And now that I am at the bottom of my post, I see that the other pictures I thought I had put on were not put on. And as many of you know, when using blogger you can't add pictures to the end, that I know of. They post at the top. Oh well, guess it will be another distraction for another day. That was nice to get my mind off of things for a bit. Hope you enjoyed my shopping spree. My mother got some great stuff as well and we were able to have a few laughs while we were out.

Again, thank you for all of your support and prayers. My mom sees the surgeon tomorrow so we will at least know something, I hope. Have a great night/day and God bless!

Hi Rhonda, Just stopping in to see if there was an update on your Mom! You have all been in my thoughts and prayers! I guess you can't help but be in a funk! I can't imagine how I would react! I turned 40 in April, and it is funny, I didn't think about or fret over my age, but my thoughts went to my parents. They are 61 and 63! Not that old, but you start becoming more aware of their mortality I suppose and appreciate them a lot more! I hope all goes well at the surgeon appt. Keep us posted if you can! Take Care!

Hugs & love, Rhonda ;)

Glad to hear that you and mother were able to have a "normal" day and trust me, there will be many like this -- the key is to keep living while waiting, while being treated..it's so important to all of you.

And you made some great finds!! Sending you many blessings.

Hi Rhonda,

Hi Rhonda,
You and your mom will be in my prayers. So glad that you went "antiquing" with your mom. I have memories, too, of my mom and myself visiting a fabric store quite often when I was very young. My mom's favorite was polished cotton. Then, I didn't have a clue as to why we were always there, except that mom loved to sew. Now I know! I have become my mother!
