Don't Go Near The Apothecary

Any chance that I have to create something odd and a tad dark is a splendid thing. I received this wonderful Apothecary Cabinet For Smaller Bottles and was instantly ready to begin! So many mini bottles, labels and instruments to enjoy like a mad doctor. Or a sane one, but like I said, I'm a tad dark.

Don't let all of these pieces intimidate you. It really is quite simple to put together. The first thing I always do is lay out all of my pieces, like a puzzle, so that I am sure I know exactly which piece goes where.

Next I just laid them all out to paint what should have been a simple color, but I was going for an aged, crackled look first. But I didn't like it.

So I decided to go with a plain white, sterile and hospital or office appropriate.

After I painted and put my cabinets together, I added a tad of glue on the joints and several coats of white paint until it was smooth, clean, and sterile.

The only difficulty I had with the next part of my project, the fun addition of many, many elements, was having to choose which to use. My own studio is  packed full of treasures (as you can see, my oddities corner below), so it is hard to not do the same in a miniature situation like this one.

How cool is this! I got the illustration from the collage sheet Little Potions, and recreated it using this tiny bottle from Tim Holtz Tiny Glass Vials set. Then I put it on top of an upside down Tiny Antique Silver 3D Crown to hold it in place like a lab sample.

A trimmed piece of plastic was used to create this glass door. Notice the handle. Don't touch please. Who knows what is in those enclosed containers of goo.

The doctors instruments are all ready to use on you. I told you not to go near the apothecary!

I used silver paper and roughed up the edges to make tiny stainless trays for all of the doctors tools.

I hope you find a little treasure that speaks to your dark side! Click on this direct link to Alpha Stamps for the complete supply list

I love how clean and organized and, well, MEDICINAL your apothecary is! Just marvelous - as is your own studio cabinet of curiosities! Makes me want to spend an afternoon snooping around!

This so cool and your oddities area of your studio is amazing. It must have taken you forever to collect all that stuff. I can see many trips to antique stores and garage sales.

Oh my goodness. I am not sure which I love more, your creation or your studio corner! Both are full of wonderful details that demand a closer examination. (Though perhaps I should not use the word examination given the subject matter--haha).
