Mother Nature in Fall

My favorite season is the fall. How could it not be, living in East Tennessee? I love that my home is surrounded by trees and I can enjoy their beautiful colors from my studio window. For this project, I wanted to incorporate these new, cool chip board leaves from Alpha Stamps. They are covered in some of the new wonderful papers Alpha Stamps is carrying.

I've been obsessed with making altered doll heads lately, so I decided to make a wonderful mother nature creation. I love how she turned out.

I started with this doll head that would not stay attached to it's body. My girls hated it so I decided to put her to use. I used a drill and made several holes in her head.

Using some Matte Medium, I applied torn and crumpled up pieces of tissue to the doll head. After it dried, I punched a blade back through each hole.

I used several of the Tim Holtz Distress Stains and Paint to add color to these Wood Icons that came in a divided wood box. I removed the dividers, painted the box (below) and then used that to stage my doll on. 

 

A stand was created using this old piece of metal I found while treasure hunting. I added a circle of paper to the empty hole of it and the doll head so they would have more surface to secure them together with.

I am fortunate enough to have lots of moss where I live, so I gathered some from my personal woods out back and to keep it brightly colored, added some Glimmer Mist Olive Vine colored spray to it.Then I attached it with liquid glue to my base and the neck of the doll.

I wanted to get the moss crawling up the head a bit before I attached the leaves. The moss was great to put at the end of each leaf to hold it more securely. I also inserted tooth picks into each stem to give it extra length and security.

After all of her leaves were attached and she was dry, I attached the head to the base with a ton of liquid glue and added moss to the base. Then it was time for the extra fun to begin by adding several decorative elements like tiny colored mushrooms, assorted feathers, miniature pine cones, beaded fringe, acrylic leaves and stamped leaves.

 

It was wonderful to see this colorful view out of my studio window as I worked.

And here she is, in all her glory in my back woods, greeting the squirrels and crows. I know, she is kind of odd, but it was a great creative experience and those fill me with such passion so it was a colorful and wonderful adventure.
