Happy Anniversary!

Here we are back when we were in our twenties.

Happy Anniversary to my amazing husband of eight years. But we have known each other since we were 18. We dated for five years in college, broke up and had separate lives for many years. I had a lot of growing up to do. I remember crying to my mom, "I'll never find anyone like Chuck again". Eventually, I found myself and was completely happy. And then God brought my best friend back to me. I think deep down I always knew that would happen.

So now, I sit in the hospital waiting room. Chuck is having his 27th operation on his leg today. Yippee, Happy Anniversary! Actually, I am fine with it happening today. I am hoping it will bring him lots of luck and be the beginning of a new life for him, us, and our family. Please say a little prayer for him. Thanks!

Love you Goonball! Here's to many, many more years! xoxo

Cassi's Creations Design Team Art

Here is my latest piece of art work designed from images by Cassandra at Cassi's Creations. I love these darker Marie images that she created and already have an idea in my head for another one from this sheet entitled Rosey Marie 2.

This one will be proudly displayed in my studio. I used some vintage sheet music and trims to accent the beauty of this Marie.

I attached leaves from a trim that I had found some time ago as well as some feathers for her top hat.

I have really been addicted to paper layering lately and have designed several things using this technique. The great thing about Cassandra's collage sheets is that they are digital. Therefore you can print them as many times as you like to use in more then one piece of art (but not to resell, of course). I printed this image five times so that I could go crazy with my layering. On the top most copy, I accented Marie's dress with a product that I recently purchased at my local scrapbook store called Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink. It looks like it belongs on my bathroom counter with my nail polish, and have to remind my girls that this is not the case at all. I really love this stuff and have it in gold and pearl. My plan is to stop by the store again and see if there are other colors to collect.

I love it when blogger posts my pictures sideways, not! This is just to show you an up close of my trims. I added the gold trim first, which is the same as the top, with the black trim added over the gold trims tassels.
I'm really pleased with how this piece came out, and I am thrilled to be on Cassandra's design team. Thanks for stopping by and thanks to Cassandra for once again inspiring me!

I Could Never Forget

It was a beautiful, sunny day. I was four months pregnant and beaming. My first grade students were finishing up their work before it was time to go to gym class. I was standing behind my desk, which faced the hallway windows and door to my classroom. Suddenly, I saw my husband and the expression on his face instantly made my heart sink. The only other time he had visited my classroom this early in the day was when his father suddenly became ill and passed away within a month.

He came into my classroom and my students beamed, "Hi Chuck!" He said hello and quickly walked up to my desk. He leaned in and whispered, "Terrorists just crashed a plane into one of the twin towers". I remember how my face felt when he said those words. After my students left for gym class, we turned the television on in my classroom and watched in horror as we heard that a second plane had crashed. What the hell was going on? I remember having my blue cropped sleeved maternity shirt on and rubbing the bump that protruded from my body thinking, "What kind of world am I getting ready to bring my child into?"

The school came together as the director told the children what had happened. It was hard to stay calm for them. It was hard not to cry about the terrors that were taking place. One of my student's fathers worked in the Twin Towers. My heart sunk. Thankfully, his father had come into town and he decided not to go into work that day. What a weird coincidence, but then again, I don't believe in coincidences. That was a true miracle.

I remember going home to my empty house that afternoon and taking candles out onto my front porch and lighting them, keeping them burning for the victims as silent prayers. We were all victims that day.

I could never forget what happened to so many on that day. Every year, when September comes around and the 11Th comes closer, and then the thought pops in my head, "This week is 9-11" my heart sinks. I try to remember that today and every day of life is a blessing. I try to remember that this is a day of birthdays and anniversaries and happy memories. But still, I can never forget.
God bless America! I love my country, I have always supported this war and our troops, and I could care less if I have to stand in line for an extra hour in the airports before a trip. I still have my freedom, but I can never forget.
The little bump that was inside of me is three days shy of being 7 1/2 years old. She can't forget, because it is all she has ever known. And to those of you who lost someone on that tragic day, or knew or were a hero to all of those victims in need, my prayers are always with you. Just like that candle, endlessly burning on my front porch. A forever prayer for Peace.

Round Robin Marie Bracelet

I hope all of you have been doing well. I have been sick for over a week now. The week has flown by and I haven't really accomplished anything at all. Guess that is what happens when school starts back up.

Here's a little update on the round robin bracelet swap that I have been doing with my Marie group. This is Terri G's bracelet. We have very similar tastes and I would love to just keep it for myself.

Below are the four charms that I made for her bracelet. I was so hard on myself when it came to this task. I want everything to be perfect. Every bead, charm and piece of wire. Goodness. I can't even tell you how many combinations I went through before finally making them. It was my first bracelet though, and I know that the more I do the better and easier it will be. I'm sad to say I have been looking into getting some reading glasses at the drug store since starting this task. I just can't see well enough, ugh! I'm getting old!

If you scroll back up to the first picture, you will see my finished charms on Terri's bracelet. I really love how it turned out and hope that she does as well. I can't wait to do the next bracelet. I have become a bead buying maniac lately and can't find enough bead caps and goodies to create with.

Have a great weekend and remeber to wash your hands constantly because the flu is officially going around- cough, cough, cough!
